Maddie and Will. A Garden Wedding at The Goodyear House in Charlotte.

Bride with a white rose bouquet kissing her groom's cheek under garden trees at The Goodyear House in Charlotte

Maddie and Will were married at The Goodyear House in Charlotte, North Carolina, and the whole day sat at a scale we love: one courtyard, one ivy-covered fence, and guests seated close enough to hear every word of the vows.

Will got ready by a window seat with a garden on the other side of the glass, the kind of soft light that makes a photographer’s job easy. The ceremony ran under overcast skies in the courtyard, which kept the light even and the greens deep. Afterward we took the two of them under the garden trees, where Maddie, bouquet of white roses in hand, kissed Will on the cheek and he did his best to keep a straight face. He did not succeed.

An intimate wedding is not a smaller version of a big wedding. It is its own format, and it photographs with an honesty that two hundred guests cannot.
